Question: How do you classify stars?
Answer: Stars are classified by their spectra (the elements that they absorb) and their temperature. There are seven main types of stars. In order of cooling temperature, O, B, A, F, G K, and M. O and B stars are uncommon but very bright; M stars are common but dim.An easy mnemonic for remembering these is:"Oh be a fine girl, kiss me."

Question: Why do stars shine?
Answer: Stars shine because they are hot balls of plasma. The fact that they're hot causes them to give off light. The heat itself comes from fusion reactions.
